(4) Speculation

I think the purpose of intermittent morning gassing (usually beginning at 0400) is to keep me from going back to sleep. This forces me to sleep late while the fans run at full power, thus heating up the apartment sooner.

(4) A Splendid Summer?

Since Kootch's recent unfortunate cough over an open jar of relish in the kitchen, night-time gassing has taken a nose-dive and I've been able to get some pretty good zees. I think they are becoming concerned for her health. Their problem seems to be this: some of the gas injected into the air near my intake fans will also be drawn into Kootch's room by her intake fans, and will inevitably affect Kootch. Unless they are able to come up with a fix for this problem I could be in for a splendid summer.

(3) Types of Interactions

In addition to extensive use of skin gas there is another characteristic of night-time gassing I should mention: the reversal of the 'cough - thump' scenerio into more of a 'thump - cough' scenerio. There is still the occasional 'cough - thump' sequence, but the majority of 'interactions' are of the 'thump - cough' variety. This variation of interaction proves - to me at least - that the folks upstairs know when I am about to cough (small stomp above me). I should also mention that there is no time - even at night - when I am free from 'surveillance from above.' It is truly a 24/7 operation.

(2) Skin Gas

The gas log mentions 'skin gas(tap).' I don't know the 'name' of the gas, of course, so I call it 'skin gas.' Skin gas is the least objectionable gas because it causes no airway irritation that I can detect. It is more of a nuisance gas. They use skin gas against me mostly at night, but they occasionally use it the BR and (more frequently) in the LR. Because SG produces no auditory 'confirmation' they will periodically inject an airway irritant into the 'SG stream' in order (I suppose) to verify that I am actually inhaling the gas and that they are not wasting it.

Skin gas seems to 'amplify' some skin sensors. At low levels there is only an increase in 'itch volume' (for lack of a better analogy): any minor itch 'not worth bothering about' rapidly becomes 'an itch worth scratching.' At higher levels of skin gas there is a strange slightly prickly feeling in the skin, somewhat as if the 'volume' has been 'turned up' so high that 'static' in being 'heard.' I think I mentioned skin gas in my other blog and mistakenly labeled it as a 'CNS antagonist.' Skin gas produces no CNS symptoms that I can detect, but the PNS effects of skin gas are unmistakable.

(2) Bike Performance Improves

Just returned from my 50 minute bike ride and found I had shaved five minutes. That's a ten precent improvement over what has consistently been a 50 minute ride. I can only credit the recent clean air with some of the improvement, of course. No doubt some credit goes to 'summer conditioning' and some of it goes to my 'stationary bike' in the LR, a recent purchase. Nevertheless (tap), some credit goes to clean air (boom. The voyeurs above seem to be in commenting mood.)
